It's so important! My first phone was stolen as well, my second is still in a drawer somewhere. It's out of date, but still working so I keep it for an emergency because currently I only have a business phone. And that one I will have to hand back at some point and will be sent back to the supplier - who by law in Europe - has to have a recycling program. Therefore also if I ever decide to purchase a new private phone they will have to accept my old one for recycling. This counts for all electronics but judging by what I see on the curbs still not a lot of people use the possibility.
