@Morgan:
The blue and white one is Aggie's 6 point RR which is available on Crochetville here Just don't do the increase points if you want to keep it at 6 points.

She also has a 12 point one which is a little different pattern. I've done both and love both of her patterns. Best wishes on the grandson. I have just one granddaughter and it's so much fun to crochet for her.

Wow, I love both! Where did you get the patterns? I have my first grandson on the way and I'm a strong believer in recycling! The six pointed star is much more functional to me than the patterns available for the twelve pointed ones. Were they free patterns or can you give me the name of a book?

Carmen,
Over at Laughing Purple Goldfish she has the best tutorial for showing how to choose sweaters for unraveling and great pictures showing how to reclaim the yarn here. The pictures showing the insides seams is really important in choosing sweaters that are easier to unravel.

Wow, I am impressed! Now I have questions if I go looking for a sweater to unravel at my local thrift store...How do you know what yarns you can unravel? Is there a certain type of fiber: cotton, acrylic, wool, ect. that is better to look for? And where/how do you find the end to unravel from? Love to hear any tips you may have & then I may have to try this!

What a wonderful thing to use reclaimed yarn for a good cause. That's a double good cause!
And it's true, you can make tons of projects with just one old sweater.
