This doll bunting pattern was adapted and printed with permission from Sue Thomson who designed a baby bunting for a newborn. Her free crochet pattern can be found here. After re-working the pattern several times, I finally got the right fit for a baby doll that is about 13 inches tall.

I crocheted the doll bunting and added a stocking cap to finish off the outfit. The hat is more of a sleeping cap for this outfit but the crochet pattern can be used for any doll that has a 10-1/2” head circumference.

Enjoy the free doll bunting pattern below and happy crafting to all!

I designed this doll stocking cap as a sleeping cap for a baby doll. It fits a 12-13″ doll with a head circumference of 10-1/2 inches around. I wanted to share this quick crochet project as it’s a fun little hat to add to a baby doll clothing set. I crocheted this hat to go along with the doll bunting outfit I made for my granddaughter’s doll.

My latest recycled crafting project involves these two baby dolls. I got these dolls at my local thrift store. Both dolls just needed a little cleaning and a new outfit. I crocheted both dolls a new dress and hat. Buying these used dolls was very reasonable. One was only 99 cents and the other $1.99 but with new outfits, they have a new life and look great. They both will be going to my local woman’s shelter for some little girls to find joy with a new baby doll.

Here is a closeup of the hat. I worked one round in white yarn and then did white trim by working a slip stitch in the final round. You can click on any of the photos to supersize them.

I used this doll dress and hat pattern for both outfits. I crocheted using a H (5 mm) hook with worst weight 4 ply yarn. My dolls are 12 inches tall and I did a little modification on the neckline and straps as outlined below.

My modifications:
I chained 38 stitches at the beginning. (40 for fatter soft dolls). After row 12, I joined and worked in the round with the right side facing out with a ch 2 at the start of each round from this point. I only worked 17 rows/rounds and finished off my dress with trim by working slip stitches for my final round.

My straps were done wider and with a higher front yoke to cover my doll’s chest a bit more. This was done by attaching the yarn 2 stitches from the front side edge with right side facing. Sc across the front to within 2 stitches from the other side edge. Chain 1 turn and work Sc’s back across the front yoke area back to the beginning where you started. Depending on the height you want for the front yoke, you can either do just one row or two rows before beginning the first strap. Ch 1 turn and work Sc in only the next for stitches for the strap. My straps are 5 stitches wide including the turning chain. I worked my straps about 12 rows long. Check your fit to see if the strap is long enough for your doll. Attach to the back of dress with Sc’s to secure strap. My back strap edge was attached at the 4th stitch from the back opening. (See photo below)

Attach your yarn to other side of the front with right side facing and repeat the steps to make the strap for the other side of dress.

I added stripes to the blue dress set by working a different color of yarn on the second from the last Dc round of dress and then doing slip stitches for the trim with the same color of yarn as the stripe.

Recycling these thrift store dolls has been really fun and I can only hope some of the joy that they have brought me can be passed […]

Barbie has a pretty new yellow plarn dress. This crochet project is a follow-up to my red Barbie dress I made with regular yarn. I used a similar pattern style but did have to make several changes for the dress to work up correctly using recycled plastic bags as yarn. Using the bags as yarn is much more difficult than regular yarn, but I was pleased with my final version shown here.

If you are new to crocheting with recycled plastic bags, here is the link on how to create plarn from those old plastic grocery sacks. And if you’re not into crocheting with plastic bags, here is the link to my free red Barbie dress pattern that is made with regular worst acrylic yarn.

If so, here’s a little number I crocheted using some scrap yarn I had. I’m actually experimenting with this pattern to crochet a Barbie dress using recycled plastic bags. I wanted to test the pattern first using regular worst acrylic yarn to see how it looked as it’s easier to frog with yarn than with plarn.

My first attempt with the pattern resulted in this little red dress for Barbie. The picture is clickable if you want to see an enlarge photo of the dress. I will now attempt another dress using plastic bag yarn with a few minor changes. Anyway I did write up the pattern and wanted to share this free dress pattern with everyone.

I finally got around to crocheting a Barbie fashion doll dress out of recycled cassette tape. It’s been something that I have wanted to complete way back when I crocheted my Barbie doll purses. I had fun digging out my old Barbie doll which hasn’t had a clothes change in probably 30 years. The old girl looks pretty good for being at least 40 years old. I thought the gold boots really went well with her new halter dress too. I also whipped up a little hat to go with her new outfit.

You use just a small amount of cassette tape to crochet this outfit. Use the link above to choose a purse or shoulder bag to finish off your recycled Barbie outfit. I hope you all have as much fun making this outfit as I did. Enjoy!

Here are three free Fashion Doll patterns for a handbag purse, tote, and shoulder bag. These are crafted by crocheting with recycled cassette tape as yarn. Just rewind an old cassette tape and cut the tape at the beginning of the brown tape. Pull out the brown tape end to work your project. The tape will pull out freely from the reel. There is no need to open up the case.
