This crocheted newborn baby sweater vest is a variation of my Ana sweater that I created. The Ana sweater vest pattern is for a toddler’s size 2-3 but several people have asked for a smaller size which I am happy to share in this post today.

I crocheted a matching hat using Barb’s seamless baby hat pattern. I just added a few rows of single crochet stitches around the edge to match my trim on the baby sweater vest to complete the set.

This baby vest was crocheted using a sport weight yarn that I obtained from a free yarn swap so I’m not exactly sure what it is. It’s a soft yarn with a darker blue ribbon thread that runs through it. I used a pink contrasting yarn to finish off the project. For the newborn sweater, I used a bow tie at the front rather than a button closure but you can switch up the patterns and use either style for your sweater.

I hope you enjoy the free crochet pattern below — Enjoy!

This month over at the Trash to Treasures group on Ravelry we are having a fabric and clothing scraps challenge. So I broke out some old jeans I have been saving and recycled them into some baby bibs.

The first bib is larger and I used the trimmed side seams from a pair of jeans for the bib ties. This bib is more suitable for an older baby or toddler.

My next bib is smaller and features ribbon for the ties. I thought the ribbon would be gentler for a younger baby’s skin than the denim ties.

Below you will find a picture tutorial showing how I made each of these recycled denim heart bibs.

First I cut a heart-shaped template for my bib using a newspaper ad. Fold the heart in half and trim it so each side is shaped evenly. The heart template for the larger bib is 8″ wide by 10″ long. For the smaller bib, my template is 7″ by 7″. Just cut the size you want with a little extra for your narrow sewn seams. I also made a small heart for an embellishment.

Click on any photos to supersize

Lay your heart template on the pair of jeans and cut two. I used the leg so I just made both my hearts from this spot on the jeans.

Now with right sides together, cut your ribbon or use a trimmed side seam from a pair of jeans for the ties and insert it inside as shown in the picture. Each of my ties are about 12 inches long and you just pin them in place on the inside edge of the heart as shown. Just make sure you bunch the ties up together in the middle of the heart before sewing so only the top edge gets stitched in place. Sew around the heart, stitching close to the edge so you have a narrow hem and leave a opening at one side as shown for turning your bib to the outside.

Clip the curves and heart center seam just a bit so it lays flat after turning. Turn the bib to the outside through the opening you left from machine stitching. Press with hot iron and hand stitch close the opening you left for turning. You can top stitch around the heart as I did in the smaller bib and added a small denim heart to the center.

The larger bib I added a trimmed jean pocket to the front and hand stitched it in place. You can add other embellishments and trim as desired. I hope you have enjoyed this upcycled denim project. You can find more recycled denim projects and tutorials at my blog. Enjoy and happy crafting to all![…]

Here are my two latest baby afghans that I crocheted for the NICU Baby Blanket drive. The first is a round ripple afghan that I crocheted using reclaimed yarn from a thrift store sweater. The white cotton yarn was from a thrift store yarn cone I picked up.

Here is a before picture of the sweater and then a picture of one of the balls of reclaimed yarn I got from unraveling this thrift store sweater. My baby RR measures 36 inches across and I still have leftover yarn from the unraveled sweater for another project. I found reclaiming the yarn from this old cotton sweater fairly easy and very rewarding to create something new and useful.

Next is a starghan baby blanket I crocheted using some worst yarn from my stash. I had some issues with this pattern and it does not lay completely flat but still turned out okay.

Both of these blankets will be making they way to Kathryn who heads up the charity drive for the 4th Annual Baby Blanket Drive at her local hospital. It was a joy to crochet these blankets for the sweet little babies and I hope they bring comfort to the little ones and their families.[…]

Here is my latest baby wearable I made for my granddaughter. I crocheted this cute pattern by Beverly called Cat’s Meow Toddler Jacket using Bernat Baby Jacquards. It is a fairly easy pattern but I did have some questions and I thought I’d clarify a few issues that I had as I worked the pattern.

First I wasn’t sure what the pattern was referring to when it read “Work over 26 patterns for 3 rows” after you finish the sleeves. I figured out it was talking about the vertically rows that this stitch pattern forms as you crochet the repeat pattern. I counted over 26 pattern rows which was about 10-1/2 inches from the sleeve edge and 4 inches from side edge in to neck.

Next I found that the border needs to start on the left side as you are looking at it which is the actual right hand side of sweater. I also found that it was easier for me to do the buttonholes on the right side of jacket by starting from the top edge and working down. Because I started at the top, I worked single crochet (sc) stitches in the first 8 stitches from the collar down to the first buttonhole. Then I worked the first buttonhole ch 2, skip 2 sts, and then worked sc in the next 8 stitches and repeated down to bottom of the right side.

I finished off the border by working a sc around in each st and 3 sc in corners the same as row 4 calls for in the pattern. I worked the collar’s first row by sc in each st and then skipping every 4th stitch but then I worked the remaining rows of the collar by sc in each stitch and 3 sc at collar points. I edged my sweater jacket with white contrasting yarn by working sc around the collar and cuffs and then I crocheted the ruffled edging around the rest of the sweater.

I hope my notes may help anyone else that may have questions working this pattern. It’s really an adorable finished baby jacket and I can’t wait to see my sweet granddaughter model it.[…]

I just have to share my pink baby hoodie sweater that I crocheted for my grandaughter. I enjoyed working the pattern and was very happy with how the sweater turned out. I used a free leaflet pattern from Bernat to crochet this cute little hoodie. The pattern is also available at Bernat online here. If you’d like to see the projects made with this pattern, there is a project page on Ravelry featuring this pattern here.

So if you are looking for a cute and fairly easy baby hoodie pattern, you might want to check out this project.[…]

Here is a baby sweater set that I crocheted for my new grand daughter. This sweater is from a free pattern called Baby It’s Cold Outside. It is worked all in one piece and is an outstanding pattern. Here is the link to the pattern found at Crochet Me. I added a matching crocheted spiral hat and the cap pattern can be found here.

The photo makes the yarn look red but it’s really more of a hot pink. I crocheted the sweater using 2 strands of Caron Simply Soft yarn and finished it off with Bernat Baby Boucle for the trim. I really enjoyed this pattern and plan to make another larger size soon.

Thanks for looking and please make it a great crafting day![…]
