Purple Haze Flower Square

August 2, 2017 No comments yet

I crocheted this pretty flower square using the Golden Harvest pattern by AG Handmades. It is a lovely crochet square featuring raised flower petals in the center. I thought it would be a beautiful center square for a baby blanket in purple.

First here is my finished square I crocheted following the pattern with medium weight yarn and an I (5.5 mm) crochet hook. I love the pattern but not sure when you are suppose to switch back to work on the front of square. I did at color change of row 8. At row 8, I worked on the front with the petals facing. Not sure if this is correct but my square turned out fine to me so I am satisfied with how I worked the pattern.

So to clarify I worked on the front side of square at row 8. On the final row, I worked sc’s around and did only sc, ch 2, sc in the corners with the Red Heart Purple Haze Shimmer yarn to complete the square. Square measures 6.5 inches wide at this point.

Once I had the pretty center square done, I added granny stitching around with lilac and white yarn finishing with the same shimmer yarn for the final trim row. Here is the a photo of the completed Purple Haze Baby Blanket.[…]

Magic Wheel Round Ripple Blanket

June 29, 2017 No comments yet

Crocheting round ripple blankets are always one of my favorite patterns. I love making round ripples and always look forward to the different color combinations that are created with a variety of yarns.

I crocheted the center of this RR using some leftover Caron blue yarn before using a Yarn Bee Sugarwheel. The Sugarwheel is a new yarn that comes in a pretty yarn cake that is naturally variegated. This colorway is called “That’s my Jam.” It worked great for my small blanket that will be used for donation to Warmth for Warriors. I added some additional yarn from my stash in black and blues to finish off the blanket.

Final size is 43 inches across which should be a good size for a wheelchair blanket or lapghan. Warmth for Warriors collects lapghans and blankets all year long for use in VA hospitals, VA nursing homes, VA homeless shelters and/or base hospitals. If you are interested in helping our group, […]

Lumberjack Flannelghan Lapghan

April 28, 2017 No comments yet

The lumberjack flannelghan is a beautiful blanket pattern and I just love the look of it. There are many different color combinations that can be crocheted to make this blanket. I used soft navy and white Red Heart yarn to crochet my blanket.

Here is the link to the original lumberjack flannelghan pattern. The original pattern makes a 5 x 7 foot blanket. I wanted to crochet a small blanket that would be a lapghan size.

My lapghan was crocheted using a N (9 mm) hook with two strands of yarn held together. I played around with the pattern to make the squares smaller so I could crochet a lapghan sized blanket. I chained 16 to start and did 8 rows of DC for the first block. There are 15 DC’s on each row counting the Ch-2 at the beginning of the row. I crocheted 8 rows for each color square with a total of 5 squares for each strip. Each strip is about 7 inches wide. There are a total of 5 strips in my lapghan blanket.

For the border, I crocheted […]

V Stitch Blanket and Scarf Pattern

February 22, 2017 4 comments

I have a new crochet stitch that I am just in love with. It is called the V Stitch and it is very easy and simple to crochet many different projects using this stitch. I have already used the stitch pattern to make a blanket and a scarf.

There are several different versions of the V Stitch and I do mine without a chain stitch between my double crochet stitches. It makes for a less-holey project and works up faster for me without having to chain between stitches.

To crochet the small blanket or lapghan, I chained 101 stitches to start with a H (5 mm) crochet hook. […]

Baby Round Ripple Blankets

June 20, 2016 No comments yet

It is time again to start making baby blankets for the 2016 NICU Baby Blanket Drive. Each year Kathryn over at Crochetville makes and collects baby blankets for the yearly delivery just before Christmas. This is the 10th year of the drive and my 7th as a contributor.

Here are two round ripple baby blanket I crocheted this month. Both of these were crocheted using Aggie May’s round ripple pattern.

The centers were crocheted just using up scraps of yarn I had on hand. Then I used pink and white Red Heart yarns on the first one that measures 24 inches wide. The 2nd round ripple blanket was crocheted […]

Mini Galaxy of Change

Just a quick post to review and share the Mini Galaxy of Change blanket pattern. I have crocheted other blanket patterns from Frank O’Randle and have enjoyed working the unique stitch patterns he presents in his works.

I crocheted the blanket with a H (5 mm) crochet hook and used most of the colors called for in the pattern. I did use Teal colored yarn instead of one of the blues as I had it on hand. Here is a closeup of the center portion.

Doll Wavy Ripple Blanket

Here is a small ripple baby doll blanket I crocheted. I used my wavy ripple blanket pattern and just crocheted a shorter starting chain. This wavy ripple pattern is very adaptable as I have made dishcloths using the same pattern and baby afghans.

The blanket measures 20 inches wide by 11 inches long. I would have made the blanket longer but I only had about 2-3 ounces of the old vintage variegated yarn I was using. It still worked fine for this 11 inch tall baby doll as a blanket wrap.

Rings of Change Lapghan

August 6, 2015 1 comment

I discovered the rings of change blanket pattern on Ravelry and just fell in love with it. I used the mini blanket version to crochet a lapghan for the Warmth for Warriors organization. The mini rings of change pattern stops at row 42. I used a J (6 mm) crochet hook which resulted in my lapghan measuring 45 inches wide.

Here is a closeup of the edging.

I must say the pattern is well written and easy to follow. […]

My Corner to Corner Afghan

February 22, 2015 1 comment

Here is my first ever corner to corner afghan. I crocheted this using one strand of black yarn held with different shades of blue scrap yarn I had in my stash. I tried to do a color scheme by starting and ending with the same bright shade of blue yarn. I then just used some different colors with a light blue yarn in the center.

I used this corner to corner afghan pattern to crochet my blanket. The pattern has a good video tutorial that is found here which I found very useful on how to get the pattern started.

Here is one photo while the lapghan was in progress.[…]
