Turtle Mats

July 13, 2010 1 comment

I want to share with you a unique company I came across on the web. Turtle Mat is a creator of all types of mats for the home. Not just useful by the door, Turtle Mats are now widely used in kitchens, bathrooms, boats, RVs, dorms, offices, and utility rooms. Turtle Mats are manufactured by one of the world’s largest and most eco-friendly textile groups. The group has achieved carbon negative status by planting one million trees every year and by producing green energy in its own hydroelectric plants. The group is also at the forefront of initiatives to reduce waste, cut water usage and use fewer chemicals.

Turtle Mat also supports the Marine Conservation Society, the only charity in the UK dedicated to caring for our seas, shores and wildlife. Through their Adopt-a-Turtle campaign, they are working to save marine turtles from extinction. In the last year, Turtle Mat customers have helped raise over £5,000 through their adoption scheme. To find out more about adopting a turtle, visit their website at Marine Conservation Society.

So should you need a new doormat, you of course could crochet your own recycled rug like this plarn round rug. Plarn rugs are fun to make and are very durable. But maybe you aren’t a crafter and want to shop for beautiful and practical doormats from a green eco-friendly company. I recommend you check out the collection of lovely mats and rugs that Turtle Mat offers.

Fair Trade Eco Products

Using recycled materials and promoting eco-friendly projects is always a goal of mine here at My Recycled Bags. But maybe you aren’t a crafter and want to be able to buy a unique gift or product that is eco-friendly and organic.

The Travelling Souk offers a wide range of products under their Eco Souk line. They offer Fair Trade products that are organic and eco-friendly. Fair Trade is an organized social movement and market-based approach that aims to help producers in developing countries obtain better trading conditions and promote sustainability.

Eco Souk embraces and encourages beautiful products promoting ecological and sustainable manufacturing practices and where all the workers have been paid a decent wage.

Wherever you see this symbol the product is either Fair Trade, ethical, eco-friendly, organic, recycled, green or natural. These cool-looking organic cotton oven mitts and peg bags were among my favorites at their site. Both of these items use organic, eco friendly raw materials and manufacturing methods.

So whether you want to make your own eco-friendly oven mitt or peg bag, you can check out my free patterns. Otherwise please check the unique eco-friendly products and gift ideas available at Eco Souk.

Cool Eco Promotional Products

Teresa and Jennifer over at just shipped me a box of items from their new line of eco-friendly promotional products for me to test out and review. I am always delighted to see and use cool green eco products so I was excited to see what goodies they sent to me.

I received this handy Eco lunch tote made from 100% post-consumer recycled material such as discarded plastic water bottles and food containers. It’s a wonderful lunch bag with a velcro closure and folds flat when empty. I used it today to carry my lunch to work and it works well as a reusable lunch bag.

One of my favorite items I received was the Bamboo USB flash drive. It is made from renewable bamboo material and features a handy magnetic cap which keeps the cap securely on the flash drive.

Several ballpoint pens were sent to me. My favorite one is the Maize twist pen that is made of corn and 72% biodegradable. This eco pen is a cool-looking green color and features a soft grip. It writes nicely and has a comfortable feel to it when writing.

Next was a recycled cardboard journal notebook which is found here. The cover is made from 100% recycled cardboard and the paper inside the journal includes 100 sheets of lined recycled paper with a recycling symbol printed on each page. As with all these promotional products, you can have the cover of this journal embossed with your company name and logo. My husband really liked this item and took it to work to use for his daily notes.

Overall I found all the products that I received from FortePromo to be very useful and a good value. If you are looking to purchase any eco-friendly promotional items for your company or business, I would recommend you check out their new line of environmentally friendly promotional products they offer. They have exciting recycled, biodegradable and organic products, as well as solar and water-powered items. You’ll find all kinds of environmentally friendly promotional products that will help you promote your company and make the earth a little greener in the process!

Happy Earth Day

April 21, 2009 2 comments

April 22 is Earth Day and the kickoff of the beginning of the Green Generation Campaign over at Blogger’s Unite. Let’s all celebrate this great day by Recycling, Reusing, or Repurposing. These are my favorite three Rs. I try very hard to live by them and while nobody is perfect, maybe today we can really dedicate ourselves to the cause. Anyone who reads this site on a consistent bases knows that it’s a crafting site which uses recycled materials most of the time. Yes I love to crochet and at times share projects that aren’t necessarily recycled or green but are fun and frugal. That’s the joy of crafting. It’s the use of ones spare time to create something special that isn’t available at any retail store.

But maybe you aren’t a crafter and want to recycle all those old vcr or cassette tapes. Check out this link to GreenDisk and you can choose to use your own box (20 lbs or less) and it costs only $6.95 for the Technotrash Pack-IT. Put all your tapes in there and ship them off. What better way to celebrate Earth Day than to recycle those old tapes and save them from the landfill.

If you are a crafter, then consider making your own plarn and crochet something wonderful from trash. You can check out all my free patterns here. I offer everything from grocery tote bags made from plastic bags to potholders and purses created from reused denim jeans to clutches crocheted from repurposed cassette tapes.

So on this Earth Day 2009, please enjoy our Earth and remember the three Rs. Recycling, Reusing, and Repurposing. It’s a great way to preserve this wonderful Earth that we all love and have a great time green crafting too!
