Crochet a cute ribbon sling bag!

This week’s recycled craft project is a crocheted sling bag. The bag is crocheted using recycled plastic bags. Red ribbon was added and tied into a bow at the front. Here is the link to my picture tutorial on how to make your own recycled plastic bag yarn or plarn.

I know many crafters out there are starting their Christmas gifts. This would make a great little gift for any young girl and even as a gift bag. You could fill it up with a few stocking stuffer items and you’d have a wonderful little Christmas package. Anyway just a few ideas that I came up with to use this little bag.
As always here is the free pattern for your use.

******************************************************************
Free Crocheted Sling Bag Pattern

Purse measures 9 inches wide and 10-1/2” long
Strap length is 35 inches

Materials:
One ball of recycled plastic bag yarn or “Plarn”
2 yards of 1/8″ ribbon or other ribbon leftovers

Hook: Metal “N” hook

Chain 22

Round 1
Hdc in 2nd ch from hook in each chain to end st. Work 2 Hdc in end st, then continue around the corner and down the back side of chain by working a Hdc in every chain stitch to end. Work 2 Hdc in end st.

Round 2
Hdc in ea st down to end, work 2 Hdc in end st, then continue around working Hdc in ea st down to end. Work 2 Hdc in end st.

Rnd 3-18
Hdc in each st around and do not connect at end of rounds, just continue working Hdc in rounds until 18 rounds are completed. Bag should measure about 8-1/2” long at this point.

Rnd 19
Work 1 dec over the first two sts of row at side of bag (work 1 Hdc together over 2 sts to create 1 dec) then Hdc in ea st down to other side of bag. Work 1 dec over 2 sts at side of bag, then Hdc in ea st of remaining rnd.

Rnd 20 – 22
Repeat rnd 19. Ending at side of bag to begin strap.

Strap: Start strap at side of bag. Ch 45. Attach strap to opposite side of purse with a Sl St. Turn and work back up the chain by working a Sc around the chain until you get back to opposite end of strap handle. Adjust your Sc stitches around chain as needed to provide a smooth strap for your bag. Make sure your strap is not twisted before attaching the strap end to the opposite side of bag. Attach your yarn with a Sl St next to the st where you started the strap. Fasten off and weave ends under on inside of the bag.

Edging:
Join plarn with a Sl St at top edge of bag at the side. Sk next st, then 3 Dc in the next st, Sk next st, then Sc in next St, Sk next St, then […]
