Bloggers Unite in Acts of Kindness

Today is a very special day in which Bloggers everyone unite in acts of kindness.

BlogCatalog challenged it’s members and bloggers everywhere to do something good offline ‘an act of kindness’ and then post about it, using words, pictures, and/or videos to tell the story on December 17.

I had the privilege to crochet some recycled wheelchair and walker totes for my local VA hospital recently. It was an honor to create my own pattern for a recycled plastic tote bag that could be used on a wheelchair or walker.

Then I was compelled to create a patriotic pattern which I did using scraps of red, white and blue yarn.

Several of these totes bags were crocheted and given to our well deserving Veteran’s at the VA hospital. I also share the patterns here freely to anyone who would like to pass along an act of kindness to a family member, friend, or someone who may need one of these handy bags. It’s a wonderful feeling to do something nice for someone! So go and do it!

Blog Action Day – Crafting with Recycled Materials

October 15, 2007 14 comments

On October 15th, bloggers around the web will unite to put a single important issue on everyone’s mind. In 2007 the issue is the environment. Every blogger will post about the environment in their own way and relating to their own topic. Our aim is to get everyone talking towards a better future.

I hope you will join me in blogging for our environment today. I blog about the subject that is near and dear to my heart. Crafting and more specifically — crafting with recycled materials. Please consider using plastic bags, bread bags, vhs video tape, cassette tapes, old denim, and other recycled fabric to craft with. You can create some exciting projects by using recycled materials. I have many free patterns here for your use. Click here to see the full list of all the free craft patterns available.

By reusing these otherwise trash materials, you will be helping our environment as well as creating a wonderful recycled product. Recycled totes, purses, and grocery bags make excellent gifts. Please consider crocheting, knitting, weaving, or sewing with recycled materials today!

Sharing Other Great Websites

March 27, 2007 3 comments

I have come across many wonderful websites and blogs that support my ideas about recycling and crafting in the last few weeks. I wanted to share some of them so you too could benefit from their insightful postings.

Nancy of Selangor, MY is a GreenBeing trying to invade the earth with a bunch of similarly inspired “Green” buddies, who practice environmentally friendly habits. Check out her site for wonderful eco-friendly articles and inspirations for recycling.

Stephanie of West Virginia has a fun, down to earth Stop the Ride which shows how to make it from scratch projects. Her blog has posts several times a week and offers weekly prizes for her blog carnival. Lots of fun ideas and unique sharing of creative products that are made from scratch. This site helps with ideas to reduce debt through helpful suggestions on getting back to basics.

Crafts.suite101 site explores painting, sewing, making projects for around the house, quilting, scrapbooking, cardmaking, mosaic, gifts, embroidery, papercrafting, garden crafts, family projects, fabric crafting, rubber stamping, embossing, clay, jewelry making and all things crafting. They look at all of the latest books and products. So if you enjoy creating and discovering, this is a great site to check out.

ThriftyFun
is a site where regular folks can share their knowledge and ideas. This link to their website is for one of the most comprehensive lists of uses and ways to recycle plastic bags that I have found. There are numerous thrifty tips from readers on reusing plastic grocery bags. Everything is covered from recycling, reducing, crafting, and more so we all can be green when it comes to plastic bags. Take a moment and review this outstanding reference link.
