More Crocheted Hats

September 12, 2020 No comments yet

I have been busy crocheting more hats. In my last post I wrote about a new all front post brimmed hat I tried. I really liked how it came out and crocheted this one for my grandson.

The hat was worked seamless after row 2 which makes it nice looking without the normal joining showing on the hat. Photo below shows how it looks without joining except for FPDC rows.

Thick Front Post Crocheted Hat

Here is my very thick front post crocheted hat. The hat is crocheted by working all front post double crochet stitches in the round. The result is a comfortable very heavy winter hat that will keep you warm.

You can add a few extra rounds to make a longer hat as this is one more of a helmet cap as shown. I have included changes for a smaller ladies or youth size in the free crochet pattern below.

Thick Front Post Crocheted Hat Pattern

Hook: H (5 mm) US sized crochet hook

I love this Wool in Dark Navy used in hat shown. (210 Yards)

Crocheted Helmet Hat Pattern

I have been crocheting helmet hats for the troops. After using a few different patterns, I tweaked my own basic pattern and thought it might be helpful to write out the crochet pattern for everyone’s free use.

These helmet caps are designed to only come to the edge of the ears. If you want a longer hat or a cuff, repeat round 6 a few extra times for a longer hat. Then add the 2 rounds of single crochet for edging trim. The two rounds of single crochet add a nice tight trim for the hats.

I only chain 2 for the beginning of my rounds. I find the joining seam is tighter this way. Here is the back joining seam. You can click on it to super size it. If you prefer you can chain 3 but I think by just chaining two, the seam looks better.

As always please enjoy the free crochet pattern below!
