A friend was having trouble opening water bottles and other things due to problems with her hands. She needed a little help and these jar helpers are just the trick. Here are a few quick jar helper openers I crocheted. I gave her these two so she could carry one in her purse and keep another at home for use as needed.
These jar opener helpers are very quick and easy to crochet. It only takes about a half ounce of cotton yarn and the mesh to create. The free crochet jar helper pattern is found here.
In March, I crocheted a recycled plastic bag or plarn basket for an upcoming fundraiser. The post and details about the basket are found here.
I filled the basket with some jar opening helpers, dishcloths, a towel with a crocheted topper, a candle, a potholder, a notepad and some wine. Hopefully a fun assortment of different things which will be a auction favorite for my local Relay For Life.
The jar opening helpers are crocheted with just a bit of cotton and the pattern is available here.
Next in the basket is:
There has been a renewed interest in an old pattern of mine so I thought I’d crochet a few of the jar opener helpers to revisit the pattern. I haven’t crocheted any of these jar helpers in years.
These jar helpers are the handiest things to have and so easy to make yourself. They really do help you get a good grip on a jar lid so you can open it easily. I use shelf liner and you can make a lot of them from just one roll. Then just under a half ounce of yarn and you have the materials to make a jar opener helper. Plus you can color match the jar helper edging to match a dishcloth or potholder to crochet a pretty matching set.
The free crochet pattern for the jar helper is found here.
This project is for a jar helper that I crocheted to help you open those tough jar lids. The center is a plastic mesh that is cut from a dollar store roll of shelf liner.
I cut down the middle of my roll which was 12 inches wide. So for every 12 inches from the roll, you can cut four squares.
Work with a smaller crochet hook around evenly with your cotton. I used a D hook for my base row and then you can change to a G hook if desired to finish off your crocheted edging. I made a number of these jar openers and plan to use them as gifts along with matching dishcloths.
Crocheted Jar Helper Pattern
Finished crocheted piece measures: 7 inch Square
Hook: Metal D USA sized crochet hook
Materials:
1/2 oz – cotton yarn
6 inches x 6 inches piece of plastic shelf liner
Cut a 6 inch x 6 inch square from the plastic shelf liner roll. I purchased my non-slip shelf liner from the dollar store. The roll was 5 inches x 12 inches so I was able to cut 20 squares from the 99 cent purchase.
