Crochet a Water Bottle Holder

Recycled Water Bottle Holder

Just in time before Summer is over, crochet this handy water bottle holder from recycled plastic bags or plarn. It has a convenient sling shoulder strap and holds a reusable Nalgene 32 oz/1000 ml or one liter water bottle. This makes a wonderful water bottle holder because the bag is crocheted using plastic bags, you don’t have to worry about it getting wet from the condensation from a cold bottle.

Here is the free pattern link to crochet the water bottle holder.

Enjoy the rest of your Summer and happy green crafting to all!

  1. Seriously, earlier today, I was thinking about all the damn plastic bags I’ve got that multiply far faster than the trash I put in them–and I do most of my shopping at a co-op where they don’t use disposable bags, even! Nonetheless, they keep multiplying. So…what I’m saying is that this looks great…though I don’t have any crocheting skills….Anyway, it’s great that you’re putting your creativity to a good (and necessary) cause.

  2. Hmm…although this looks interesting, I think it could be better if I can avoid using plastic materials and replace it with nylons. What do you think? I haven’t try it yet but I think it could withstand the weight of the bottle as strong as plastic.

  3. @ Green Blog:
The nylons probably will work too for your water bottle holder. I don’t have access to nylons and get lots of plastic bags given to me for recycling purposes. I even have Internet friends send me bags that they want to see upcycled into new usable products. I enjoy the challenge of recycling many different materials so I look forward to hearing how your nylons work for your holder.

  4. Excellent idea and I think that my limited skills could manage this. Hope all is ok with you.
    Best wishes.

  11. Question? Can I use other plastic bags like bread bags for plarn?

  12. @Sheryl,
Yes you can use bread bags and other plastic materials to crochet with. I cut the bread bags a bit narrower as they stretch more and are harder to crochet with. I crocheted this bag using bread bags and the same looping method I do with the plastic bags. But experiment with them to find the best method for you.

  13. Wow it looks great!!! Good idea!!!
