Yellow Barbie Plarn Dress

Posted on November 14, 2008

Barbie has a pretty new yellow plarn dress. This crochet project is a follow-up to my red Barbie dress I made with regular yarn. I used a similar pattern style but did have to make several changes for the dress to work up correctly using recycled plastic bags as yarn. Using the bags as yarn is much more difficult than regular yarn, but I was pleased with my final version shown here.

If you are new to crocheting with recycled plastic bags, here is the link on how to create plarn from those old plastic grocery sacks. And if you’re not into crocheting with plastic bags, here is the link to my free red Barbie dress pattern that is made with regular worst acrylic yarn.

But for everyone else, here is my free yellow Barbie dress pattern. Enjoy!

Don’t turn. At this point continue working in rounds without turning. You should be working on the RS of the dress.

Rnd 11 – 18
Ch 1, join with a Sc into the Sc (last st of row10). *Ch 3, Sc in next Ch 3 space*. Repeat between * until desired length of dress is completed. End your last round at back of dress with a Ch 3 and a Sc into the Sc of prior round.

Fasten off and weave ends under on inside.

Sew a small button on the back at neckline for a closure. Using a piece of yellow plastic 1 inch wide, cut a strip, and tie a big knot in front at waistline. Then take and tie at back and flare the ends up to create a netting look. Using scrap pieces, cut and insert under skirt area of dress, tying it at waistline, to create a yellow dress slip.

So cool! When I was little my Aunt Donna made all my doll clothes from scrap fabric. My dolls were the best dressed on the block 🙂
