Recycled Valentines Projects

February 11, 2024 No comments yet

I wanted to revisited some of my recycled Valentine’s themed projects. Over the years, I have crocheted and sewn several fun projects that might inspire some of you to try these for Valentine’s Day. Plus it’s eye candy for any plarn and denim lovers out there.

Here is a recycled plastic Valentine’s card holder that adults and children can both make together. It uses some pieces of red and white recycled plastic bags, scrap yarn, ribbon and a small remnant of red felt to make. The full picture tutorial and directions can be found at the fused plastic Valentine’s heart link.

Here is a little Valentine’s basket that is crocheted using recycled plastic bags or plarn.

This little basket or bag could be used to hold Valentine cards or as a little gift bag for a loved one. The free pattern is found here.

I promised some recycled denim projects and here are a few cute little purses to share.

Heart Dishcloth

Here is one more quick heart project I just completed in honor of Valentine’s Day. This is a cute and easy pattern worked in the round or should I say heart-shape. It is all worked on the right side without turning. My finished size is 8 inches wide using a G (4 mm) crochet hook.

I crocheted my cloth using a small amount of scrap red Christmas cotton that contains a silver metallic thread throughout. The free heart dishcloth pattern by Janelle Schlossman is no longer on her blog site. But you can find the pattern still here by using the Wayback Machine on the web.

I thought I remember crocheting this pattern before and sure enough I crocheted it 10 years ago. Here is that heart cloth with a white contrasting yarn for trim.

Danish Valentine Heart

Time to gear up for the next holiday coming up, right? Here is my Danish heart that I crocheted for a little Valentine’s Day gift. It’s a cute ornament that you crochet in 2 oval pieces and then weave together to create the final woven heart.

The Danish heart pattern is available here at Ravelry. I had a little trouble getting started with the oval pieces at round 3 until I saw a photo of a completed oval. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. So with that being said, here is a photo of my 2 oval pieces.

Valentine Themed Projects

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I thought it might be fun to share some Valentine themed craft projects that I have been working on. Last month I participated in a cabled heart crochet along and here are the two heart squares I made.

The 12 inch crocheted cabled hearts square features 4 hearts.

This 6 inch cabled heart square pattern features just a single heart.

I just loved the 12 inch Yarncrazy Cabled Hearts Pattern (not available anymore) and thought it would make a wonderful center for a crocheted baby blanket. So I used the large square and then proceeded to double crochet around it to create this baby afghan.

Here are a few Valentine heart bookmarks I crocheted.

Recycled Valentine’s Day Craft Projects

Just in time for Valentine’s day, here are several recycled craft projects that you can make. First I want to share this cute Valentine’s bag that Carmen sent me a picture of. She crocheted this using my recycled Valentine’s bag pattern and added some red plastic bags to trim her creation.

Next maybe you need a holder for your Valentines, if so here is a fused plastic bag project with a full picture tutorial found here.

For those crafters that enjoy working with recycled denim, here are a few little denim heart purses. The purses are lined and have several different embellishment options as shown in the tutorial.

Well that concludes my recycled crafting roundup for Valentine’s day.

Happy Valentine’s day!
