I crocheted a few hats using the Voyages hat pattern. First I used the pattern as written to crochet this hat with a H (5 mm) crochet hook. As several people have mentioned, the hat is a bit small which is why I used a bigger hook. My finished size was 7 inches long by 20″ cir following the ladies size pattern directions. Next I wanted to modify the pattern to crochet a child’s size hat in just two colors. My mods are as follows:

Start with 9 stitches and increase to 58 stitches using a H (5 mm) crochet hook. My disk was 6.5″ wide at this point.

Don’t cut yarn, just carry along inside.

Now work in new color (buff). Continuing in pattern design but with just two colors.

My finished size 17″ cir by 7″ long.

Should fit 3-4+ year old.

I really like the pattern and plan to crochet more of the hats in the future.
