Here are several more crocheted mini Christmas stockings I made for the Warmth for Warriors drive. These stockings feature a scalloped top edging.
The socks were crocheted using this Christmas stocking pattern which I just modified a bit. The edging was then added to the top of the sock by crocheting a scalloped edging and a hanging loop. The first two I used a lightweight yarn for the scalloped edge so I only worked 4 DC between 1 skipped stitch. The pattern is as follows:
Attach lightweight yarn at back heel edge of sock with a single crochet (SC)
Well it’s nearly Thanksgiving and I was browsing around and found several cool recycled turkey craft ideas. Check out this cute turkey using a recycled toilet paper roll from Dillydaliart.

It’s Christmas in July for me as I’m working on mini Christmas stockings. The Warmth for Warriors organization needs 2000 mini Christmas stockings for the troops. They have just kicked off their 2013 Christmas Stocking Drive. The socks need to be around 6 inches long and will be filled with a small bar of soap, shampoo, body wash or similar item and given to the troops as a little Christmas gift. The socks can be sewn, knitted or crocheted and do need to be all handmade.
These recycled denim Christmas socks were all sewn on my Singer treadle sewing machine. It was fun to use the treadle to sew the denim sock shells. Once sewn, I just turn the socks so the right sides are showing and fold under the top to the inside. I then crochet a top
With Easter just around the corner, I have been busy crocheting Easter eggs and Peeps for Easter baskets. We are having a Easter CAL (craft a-long) over at our group on Ravelry. A cute Peeps aka marshmallow bunny crochet pattern was shared. This pattern is very quick and easy. Here are several of them that I crocheted. I used black fabric puff paint to add the eyes.
Here are some crocheted eggs I did. Delights shared her free egg pattern on Ravelry where she uses a plastic egg and then crochets the shell around the egg. I had the idea of crocheting the egg and then stuffing it with a recycled plastic bag.
I recycled a few more old Christmas cards into Christmas ornaments. This time I made 4 inch round ornaments from some old cards I have been saving. I used a small bowl from the kitchen to make the round circle. I just placed the bowl over the part of the card that I wanted to cut out. It worked well to place it so I could see if I was capturing all the area I wanted for the ornament. Then I just traced around the edge of the bowl with a pencil and cut out the circles.

I like to save old Christmas cards to recycle them into new and useful items. In my recycled gift tag post, I cut them to create cute little gift tags that can be used on packages. This year I wanted to use the old cards to create some Christmas ornaments that I could send along to the troops overseas. I know they may not have a tree but they could hang these little ornaments on a knob in their vehicle or hang it in their living area. Maybe the small decoration would remind them of Christmas and bring them a little joy for the holidays.
Materials needed:
Old Christmas cards
Small hole punch
Scissors
Glue
Small crochet hook C (2.75 mm) works well with the small holes
Scraps of yarn (aran, ww, or even sport yarn will work)
Cut two cards to match so that you have front and backs the same size.
With Halloween just a few weeks away, I thought it was a good time to have a recycled project review of the different craft items that I have done over the years for Halloween.
Here is a trick or treat bag I crocheted using recycled plastic orange newspaper sacks. I used a gallon milk jug bottom for the base of the inside of the pumpkin to give it a sturdy base. Here is the link to the complete plarn pumpkin trick or trick bag pattern.
This orange trick or treat bag was also crocheted using recycled orange newspaper bags. I added a microwave dinner tray
I know it may be early to start crafting for Christmas but I just had to share these mini recycled denim Christmas socks that I have been making. I used one of my crocheted small Christmas stockings as a template and traced around the sock to create the shape on a piece of paper. I then used the template to cut out two sock shapes from old denim jeans.
The sock shapes before sewing are about 8 inches long and 3-1/4 inches wide. Just use a stocking shape you like and the size of your sock can be bigger or smaller depending on your preference.
Put the right sides together and machine stitch a narrow seam around the sock. Leave the top edge unsewn as you will fold in the top edge about 2 inches to create a finished edge without having to sew along the top opening. The crocheted top and loop is then added to the top edge of the denim stocking.
Below the denim sock is shown with the narrow hem sewn and before it was turned to the inside.
Merry Christmas! What better way to celebrate the holidays than with recycled crafting. Here is my latest using this ever so cute little Christmas sock pattern. I used a “H” (5 mm) crochet hook and worked the pattern using 8 recycled newspaper plastic bags and one large green retail bag for the trim. The pattern doesn’t state if you should join each round or just work in the round. I single crocheted in the round without joining except for the final round of each color. On the final round of each color, I did join with a slip stitch to keep each color edge smooth. My finished plarn mini stocking is 6 inches long.

I made my yarn stocking a bit bigger than the pattern called for by adding a few additional stitches and rows. This 2nd stocking is about 7-1/2″ long. So whether your working with plarn (plastic bag yarn) or regular worst yarn, this pattern is super fast and easy. Enjoy!
