Alpine Mini Christmas Stocking

December 9, 2024 No comments yet

I tried out a new mini Christmas stocking pattern. The Alpine Christmas stocking pattern features 4 different sizes you can crochet. The jumbo stocking is about 22 inches long and the sizes go down to the mini stocking which is about 6 inches long. The mini size is perfect for the Warmth for Warriors stockings that I crochet each year.

Here is the first little stocking I crocheted using the mini stocking directions.

This stocking is a bit wonky as the red yarn was very thin and the white yarn was much thicker but it still turned out to be a cute stocking. Plus I learned and got better with the Alpine stitch as I worked through this stocking.

Once I figured out the specialized stitch, I moved on to another stocking and used yarn that was of equal thickness. This green mini stocking turned out much better looking and I think I have crocheted the Alpine stitch pattern more actually now. I also crocheted the toe in the same color as the main stocking which I thought looked better. Check out the photo below and let me know what you think?

Denim Christmas Stockings

For Christmas in July this year, I cut up some old denim to make mini Christmas stockings for Warmth for Warriors. I cut the denim using a paper template and then just sew around the edges while leaving the top hem unsewn. Once the sewing is done, I turn the stockings to the right sides and fold over the top raw edges to the inside of the stocking.

A crocheted top is then added to the stockings. I used some scraps in red, white and blue yarn to add a patriotic twist to a few of the stockings. I have all the details along with several photos

Cuffed Christmas Stocking

These mini 6 inch Christmas stockings use an optional fold-over cuff from my original crochet pattern for the mini cuffed Christmas stocking pattern. Below you will find the crochet directions for this optional fold-over cuff using contrasting yarn.

You work the first 8 rows of the stocking pattern but then only chain 8 instead of 12 stitches for the upper leg portion. Then work the pattern the same until you come to the first decrease row. In rows 9 and 10, you want to work the decreases on either side of the back of the heel for shaping.

Finish off the stocking and leave a long tail for closing up the back heel seam.

Now for your contrasting fold-over cuff,

Recycled Denim Mini Stockings

We have been making mini Christmas stockings for the troops over at Ravelry. We are in the middle of a stocking-along at the Good Things Together group. I haven’t made any recycled denim stockings this year and figured it was time. So I broke out the sewing machine and stitched up 3 denim stocking shells.

I added crocheted tops to each of the 3 denim stockings. Here are the final results.

The stocking-along is for mini Christmas stockings that will be sent to the Warmth for Warriors organization. Each year people handcraft the little stockings and then they are filled with small goodies and shipped off to the troops.

Last year over 1900 mini stockings filled with soaps, toiletries, and candies were sent to our troops as a little Christmas gifts. The handmade stockings filled with goodies are a wonderful way to say thank you to our troops and give them a little Christmas cheer during the holidays.

Here is the link to my mini denim Christmas stocking tutorial. It is very simple to cut two pieces of denim from old jeans and stitch them together. Once that is done, you just add 3-4 rows

Mini Cuffed Christmas Stocking Pattern

I make many mini Christmas stockings each year for the Warmth for Warriors group. I decided I wanted to try a new crochet pattern to change things up a bit on my stocking making and came up with this new pattern. I took my cuffed baby booties pattern and tweaked it to create this mini cuffed Christmas stocking. The pattern is easy and can be crocheted in less than an hour plus it is free so enjoy the crochet pattern below.

Mini Christmas Cuffed Stocking Pattern

Crochet hook: H (5 mm) hook
Yarn: 3/4 oz Worst Weight Yarn (42-50 yards depending on yarn)
Finished size: 6 inches tall, 4.75” wide at toe, & 2.75” wide at top.

Rnd 1
Ch 2, work 9 Sc in 2nd ch from hook. (You can also start with a magic circle and work 9 Sc’s in circle.) Don’t join as the toe section is worked in rounds without joining. Place a stitch marker at the beginning of each round. (9 sts)

Mini Denim Christmas Socks

I know it may be early to start crafting for Christmas but I just had to share these mini recycled denim Christmas socks that I have been making. I used one of my crocheted small Christmas stockings as a template and traced around the sock to create the shape on a piece of paper. I then used the template to cut out two sock shapes from old denim jeans.

The sock shapes before sewing are about 8 inches long and 3-1/4 inches wide. Just use a stocking shape you like and the size of your sock can be bigger or smaller depending on your preference.
Put the right sides together and machine stitch a narrow seam around the sock. Leave the top edge unsewn as you will fold in the top edge about 2 inches to create a finished edge without having to sew along the top opening. The crocheted top and loop is then added to the top edge of the denim stocking.

Below the denim sock is shown with the narrow hem sewn and before it was turned to the inside.
