Snowflake Waffle Stitch Towel Topper

November 22, 2020 2 comments

Need a quick and cute homemade Christmas gift idea? Here is a crocheted Christmas towel topper topped off with a jingle bell for the closure button. This is a double layered towel which requires no cutting or sewing and works up very fast.

Just fold your kitchen towel in half and use this picture tutorial to show you how to crochet single stitches along the top edge through both layers. I will admit that this one row of single crochet stitches is a bit tough but once you have the base row completed, your towel topper will fly to the finish.

The waffle stitch towel topper pattern is free and found here.

Year after year my homemade towel toppers are always popular with people and they make wonderful donations for charity craft fairs too. I have several other free towel topper patterns and you can check them

Christmas Crocheted Towel Toppers

Well Halloween is over and now the Christmas holiday season begins. I know many will argue that we haven’t even had Thanksgiving yet, but it’s time to get started on those handmade Christmas gifts. So with that in mind, here are some Christmas crocheted towel toppers to inspire you.

I got this cute snowman holiday towel last year at an after Christmas sale. Using my double layered towel topper technique, I crocheted through both layers of the towel folded in half. No sewing or cutting needed and added a red jingle bell for a closure. Here is a closeup of the topper.

Next is a dollar store bar towel which I crocheted the topper using the same pointed handle towel topper pattern. Because of the odd shape of this towel, I folded the towel in half with the fold-line along the left edge. I then crocheted through both layers along the top edge to add the towel topper.

Just to give you more ideas, here are a few more Christmas towel topper photos.

Bar Towel Toppers

Here are several Dollar Store bar towels that I have added towel toppers to. I love the thick and absorbent towels but they are a odd width to do a normal double-layer crocheted towel topper. I tried this first one where I didn’t fold over the towel and just crocheted the towel topper along the top edge. It makes for a longer kitchen towel and not sure if I like it or not. This towel topper was crocheted using the waffle towel topper pattern.

Next I folded the towel in half lengthwise. I then added a crocheted towel topper through both layers with the fold on the left hand side. This created a nice thick double layered towel but again I’m not sure about the foldline being on the side.

Here is a closeup of the crocheted towel topper which was created using the pointed handle towel topper pattern.

So what do you think about these Dollar Store bar towel projects? I’d love to hear people’s thoughts and

Crocheted Towel Toppers

I bought several holiday towels after Christmas last year. They were marked down 50% and more on some of these. I decided to start early and add towel toppers to them. I will use them for Christmas gifts and charity auction items for the upcoming holiday season.

All of these towels are what I call double-layered as I don’t cut the towels in half or sew the top edges. I simply fold the towel in half and crochet the towel toppers directly into both layers of the towel. This creates an extra heavy towel which I think is better than the single layer towel with towel toppers.

These two towel toppers were crocheted using my pointed handle towel topper pattern. I should also add that all of my crocheted towel topper patterns are free.

The next towel has the waffle towel topper added to it. I used a red jingle bell for the button closure.

Double Layer Towel Toppers

I have been working on a project of crocheted towel toppers. I wanted to be able to create the topper without cutting and eventually not having to machine sew the top of the towel. Another goal of the project was to have a double layer 2-ply towel. Here is my first finished double towel topper below.

Here is a picture tutorial and free crochet pattern below for making a double towel topper.

Fold the towel in half with right sides facing out. Machine stitch along the top edge using a basting stitch.

Then using some cotton blend sport weight yarn and a steel #7 crochet hook, single crochet along the top edge through both layers of the towel.

Here is another method I used where I did not machine stitch along the top edge. The steps are fold, press, pin, and then single crochet along the top edge of the towel through both layers.

Again I used a steel crochet hook #7 to poke the holes for the first row. Then I switched to a “G” crochet hook after the first row to finish the towel topper.

Finished no sew double towel topper which I call the fold and pin method.
