Crocheted Neck Wrap Scarf

Posted on November 13, 2010

I present my crocheted neck wrap scarf. It is crocheted in the round and just slips over your head. As shown, it can be worn up over the chin and nose. It would make an excellent neck warmer and face warmer for winter and for snowmobiling.

You can make it smaller and larger as desired by just adjusting your beginning chain. I have made several of these and found the snugger fitting ones work better for staying up on the nose. You can wear it just around the neck but this scarf gives you the option of pulling it up around the chin and nose to keep you extra warm.

This is a very quick and easy project that uses less than 3 ounces of worst weight yarn. These neck wrap scarves make excellent gifts and would be a great Christmas gift too. Enjoy the free crochet pattern below.

I love it! We mailed out military gifts last weekend, so I don’t have time to get some of these done for that project this year, but this will be so awesome for next year!

Yes! In the Army we called them Gator Necks. I always loved my Gator Neck, especially while stationed in Korea. One made of a nice cozy yarn would have been wayyyy better than polypropelene (sp?). Thanks for linking it up to Fibers on Friday!

Thank you! My son asked for one of these to use while hunting and I’ve been looking for pattern ideas since I am a novice crocheter. The only difference is that he asked for a mouth slit. Again, thank you!

Cathy, thank you. This pattern is pretty straight-forward and easy to follow. To add a mouth slit, just figure out what round is about right for where he’d like the slit. Then skip the number of stitches you want to equal the length of the mouth slit. Chain the number of stitches you skipped minus one stitch. Then continue crocheting around and when you reach the chain just work one DC stitch in each stitch of the chain. This should work to create the mouth opening. Please email me back should you need any further help.

How can I make sure that first round chain isn’t twisted

Karen – When you join the two ends together, just look at it and make sure it’s flat and not twisted somewhere along the chain. I usually lay it down and flatten it out so I can see it better and then join it together so I know its all flat.

Hope this helps. Best wishes and let me know if you have any other questions as you work the project.

I am a fairly new to crochet and this was my first successful attempt to make something for my husband who works outdoors all year. I think he is going to be very pleased with his surprise Christmas gift. Thanks for posting the pattern as a freebie!
