Crocheted Baby Hats

Posted on March 10, 2025

Here are my latest baby hats that I crocheted for the local hospital nursery. This will probably be my last batch as the weather is warming up and I will be doing other items for them.

First are two newborn baby hats that feature a scalloped edging. This edging is easy and fun to add to any baby hat. Here is the free crochet pattern for the scalloped baby hat.

Next are some ribbed band baby hats. First is the single post newborn hat pattern.

I thing that I did do differently than the original pattern as written is that I crocheted them seamless. I have been playing around with this idea for awhile. I begin the hat by crocheting 6 single crochet (SC) in magic circle to start. I then work the pattern as written without joining or doing chain 2 at the start of each new row. Continue to work pattern crocheting half double crochet stitches (HDC) thru 8 rounds to have 54 stitches to now work even. The disk at this point is 4.5”. When you get the length you want, just end with a few slip stitches to begin the ribbing. I chain 2 which counts as the first back post double crochet (BPDC) and then work the front post double crochet (FPDC) stitch(es), just continue around and join to start next ribbing row. Follow pattern at this point.

Here is another free crochet pattern of mine that has a double post ribbing hat band.

This last baby hat is a new pattern that I tried called Kim’s beanie. I converted it to a baby size crocheted hat so I started with 13 inch long ribbing strip of about 50 stitches. As I am doing this to fit a newborn, I only repeated rounds 2-6 once before moving to decreases. Here is the link for the free adult hat pattern for Kim’s beanie. My finished baby size is 5.5″ long by 12″ cir.

Thanks for checking out all my new baby hats. They were fun to crochet and were recently delivered to the hospital for give-a-ways to the newborn babies.
