Green Handled Plarn Tote Bag

September 17, 2022 No comments yet

I have been busy crocheting a recycled tote bag for a future charity fundraiser. This bag was crocheted using the free ultimate grocery bag pattern.

The pattern creates a 13 inches long reusable tote bag. I used around 50 plastic retail sacks to crochet the bag. The green handles were plarn I made from lightweight grocery bags that I recycled. Here is a closeup photo below to show the crocheted green handles.

Plarn Recycled Clothes Pin Bag

Over 13 year ago I created this clothes pin bag pattern crocheted from recycled plastic bags. I haven’t worked the pattern for several years and decided to make the clothes pin bag for an upcoming charity auction. There is just something special to me to use one of my original pattern to create something new and useful. Here is my latest recycled bag!

The free recycled plastic bag clothes pin pattern can be found here. I used my trusty N (9 mm) crochet hook to work the body of the bag. I did use a new soft touch K crochet hook to work the trim around the opening as I found it easier on my hands. By using the smaller hook, it provides a nice finished look to the opening.

As warmer weather is approaching, maybe you are hanging your clothes out to dry on the line. If so you might need a peg bag. What better way to recycled plastic retail bags than to make yourself a nice handy recycled bag to hold your clothes pins.

As always, enjoy and happy crocheting to all!

Easter Plarn Projects

March 16, 2016 3 comments

Easter is just about upon us and what better time to share some recycled plastic bag or plarn projects.
Here is a cute Easter basket you can crochet using some recycled green, yellow and white plastic bags.

Here is a larger basket that I crocheted several years ago with some hard-to-find purple plastic sacks. An on-line friend sent me these purple retail sacks and I happily recycled them into plarn. I cut the bags 1 inch wide and crocheted the basket using this free Easter basket pattern.

Crafting with Plastic Bags

It has been over six years now since I started this recycled bags blog. When I first started out I wanted to share the idea of using plastic bags for craft projects. I wanted to promote the reuse and repurposing of plastic for useful items. Over the years, I have crocheted tote bags, rugs, scrubbies, purses, baby bibs, soap dishes, coasters, baskets, gift bags, water bottle holders and much more using recycled plastic.

You can find all of my crochet free plastic bag patterns here at my site. Over the years I have shared all my patterns free so that everyone could enjoy crafting with recycled plastic materials. I have used every type of recycled plastic such as retails bags, toilet paper packaging, hotdog and hamburger bun packages, frozen vegetable packages, paper towel packaging, bread bags, hashbrown bags, and taco shell bags.

Trash Rug from Recycled Plastic

Recycling plastic to create yarn has endless possibilities. I only named a handful of plastic items you can make plarn from. Plarn (PLastic yARN) is the term my friend Joy coined first over at Crochetville
