Here are a few potholder towel combo ideas. First is a Fall themed potholder from the Dollar Store that I added a towel to the bottom of the potholder.
The towel is folded in half and I used a needle and thread to run a baste stitch through the center for gathering. I then gathered the center of the towel to match the bottom of the potholder.
Below is a photo of the front with it pinned in several areas. You can either machine stitch the towel to the potholder or hand stitch it in place. For this project, I hand stitched the towel to the bottom edge of the potholder. I was able to hide my stitches using brown thread and pulling up under the red trim edge of the potholder. I secured the towel tightly by doing many stitches and making sure it wasn’t going to pull loose. See photos below for more details and you can click on them to supersize the photos.
Here are two Christmas towels that I bought at the Dollar Store. They make wonderful holiday themed towels by adding a crocheted towel topper with a jingle bell.
I used the double layered towel topper pattern that is a free crochet pattern.
I did work the handle on 8 stitches just because this 24/7 cotton yarn is thin. This gives the handle a bit more strength for hanging it up. For the buttonhole, I crocheted 2 chains and skipped 2 stitches for the space for the jingle bell. Depending on the size of the button or jingle bell you use, just adjust your stitches to make the hole big enough for the size you need.

I just love crocheting towel toppers. I crocheted these using several Christmas towels that I either got at the dollar store or on clearance last year.
This Christmas gift idea is quick to crochet and people seem to just love them. I added jingle bells for the closure on a few of them. It just adds to the holiday theme and it’s fun to hear the bells jingle.

I crocheted several kitchen towel toppers last month for gifts. Now that Christmas is over, I can share them here on my blog. It seems that everyone enjoys receiving these handmade towels so every year I crochet a few of them for friends, co-workers, and family. I do try and not give them every year to the same people as I don’t want them to get tired of receiving them.
My towels are double layered as I fold the towels in half and then crochet through both layers to add the tops. The nice thing is that there is no cutting or sewing needed to begin crocheting the towel topper onto the towel.
I found this pretty Easter flowered towel at Shopko and turned it into a crocheted Easter gift. I folded it in half and crocheted a pink towel topper onto the kitchen towel.
I used the free crochet pattern called double layered waffle towel topper pattern. The only change I made was for the extra large pink button I added for the closure. Because it was so large, I chained 3 stitches for the buttonhole. I then crocheted a few extra stitches into the buttonhole on the next row to secure the large opening for the button. It worked out great and the button fits through the hole nicely.
